The Estate

No artificial planting, no imported jungle set-dressing. The shade here grew here.A working organic farm. Chambal Farming grows vegetables and produce on the estate for the lodge kitchen. What is on the plate at dinner was, in most cases, in the ground on the same property that morning.
A village courtyard. Saras Village is the social heart of the property — open courtyard dining, traditional pattal service, chulhe ki roti, and regional cooking done the way it is done in the villages around us.
The People
The country around this property is among the more economically neglected parts of Agra district. The lodge’s position on that is straightforward: tourism that does not create local livelihoods is extraction with better photography.Mela Camp recruits from the surrounding villages and trains for the job — hospitality, guiding, boat handling, kitchen work, maintenance. The boatmen and naturalists who take guests out have worked this river for years. They are not reading from a species list; they know where the animals are because they have watched them all their lives.
Conservation At the core
The Chambal Eco Preservation & Welfare Society was established in 2014. Every stay at Mela Camp routes back into it — river habitat protection, nest monitoring in season, awareness work in the surrounding villages, and employment for people who live along this stretch of the Chambal.
