Why Choose Mela Camp

The Chambal is one of India’s cleanest and most biodiverse rivers. The National Chambal Sanctuary protects a 400 km stretch of free-flowing river and a 1–6 km swathe of ravines on either bank — 1,235 sq km granted Protected Area status in 1979 to save the gharial from extinction. Today it holds the world’s largest wild gharial population, alongside Gangetic river dolphins, mugger crocodiles, rare turtles and 320+ bird species including the Indian Skimmer and the Sarus Crane.

Mela Camp sits at the heart of this landscape. Dawn boat safaris, ravine jeep drives, heritage trails to Bateshwar and Shauripur, and evenings by the campfire — all a short drive from the Taj Mahal, yet a world away from it.

The Man Behind Mela Camp

Kunwar Munendra Pal Singh

A passionate nature enthusiast with over 15 years in Indian tourism and wildlife conservation, Munendra Pal Singh is the Director of Arjun Stud Farms & Arjun Agricultural Farms and Secretary of the Chambal Eco Preservation & Welfare Society. In 2014, he began restoring the 125-acre estate of the historic Jarar Mela into the conservation lodge it is today. His deep respect for the land and its people shapes every riverbank walk, every safari, and every meal at Mela Camp.

A nature enthusiast with more than fifteen years in Indian tourism and wildlife conservation, Kunwar Munendra Pal Singh is Director of Arjun Stud Farms & Arjun Agricultural Farms and Secretary of the Chambal Eco Preservation & Welfare Society. He began the restoration of the Jarar Mela estate in 2014 and has shaped every part of the lodge since — from where the cottages sit to what comes out of the kitchen.

Kunwar Munendra Singh is the fourth-generation heir of the Jarar zamindar family, a distinguished family with a rich legacy and deep-rooted traditions.The family has been associated with the breeding and sale of Marwari horses for generations. Initially, they focused on breeding and nurturing Marwari horses, and today, Kunwar Munendra Singh continues this legacy through the sale and purchase of horses across India, particularly focusing on quality and pedigree.Alongside the family’s equestrian heritage, the family is also recognized as one of North India’s prominent and leading jaggery (gur) traders, carrying forward a well-established business tradition. Kunwar Munendra Singh has successfully preserved and maintained his family’s legacy while bringing a modern approach to its traditional businesses.

Education & Expertise : He holds an MBA in Marketing & Sales, combining his traditional family knowledge with professional business expertise.He is also well-versed in international languages, with particular expertise in Italian, reflecting his interest in international communication and equestrian culture.With his strong understanding of horses, business, marketing, and international communication, Kunwar Munendra Singh represents the fourth generation of a legacy that blends heritage, horsemanship, and modern entrepreneurship.
