Chambal Wildlife Safari

( Same Day Excursion From Agra )

Around 7:00 am you will be picked up from hotel and drive to Chambal Wildlife Safari Lodge, Mela Ground at Village Jarar (70 kms, One hour 30 mins drive).

08:30 am – Arrive Jarar at Chambal Wildlife Safari Lodge, Mela Ground
You will be welcomed at Chambal Wildlife Safari Lodge, Mela Ground and light refreshment will be served.

9:00 am – Proceed to Pinahat Ghat to enjoy the Chambal Wildlife Safari in Chambal Sanctuary.
National Chambal Sanctuary spread across a sprawling landscape, is a Tristate sanctuary lying in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and also Rajasthan. The sanctuary supports the highest population of some critically endangered species such as the Gharial (crocodile), the red-crowned roof turtle and our national aquatic animal, the Gangetic dolphins. The sparkling waters of Chambal River circulate within this sanctuary through ravines
and beside the hills, creating an impeccable view of the wild.

Chambal Sanctuary was first designated as a protected area in 1979 in attempt to revive Gharial population from ongoing poaching. It covers a 400km stretch with 1 to 5 kms stretch of mud cliffs on both the sides of Chambal river ravines.

The Sanctuary currently boasts of 242 species of resident and migratory bird species, Marsh crocodiles (muggers), gharial (gavials), eight species of turtles, and Gangetic dolphins.

We will leave the vehicles a kilometer before the Chambal river and ride on the Horse back to reach Chambal river.
At Chambal river, board the speed motor boat with a naturalist to explore the flora and fauna of the Chambal Sanctuary. We will cruise about 6 km downstream in the river to watch the wildlife of Chambal.
In 1979 a 400 km stretch of the river and up to 6 km wide swathes of the ravines on either side of the river was designated the National Chambal Sanctuary to provide protection for the critically endangered Gharial (Ghavial) crocodiles. Today the varied habitats of the sanctuary are home not only to the Gharial but to an amazing abundance of other wildlife, such as the rare and highly endangered Gangetic Dolphin, Marsh Crocodile (Muggers), eight species of Turtle, Smooth Coated Otter, Indian Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat, Golden Jackal, Indian Wolf and foxes amongst

A bird watcher's paradise, the Sanctuary currently boasts 311 species of resident and migratory birds including large numbers of the rare Indian Skimmer, Greater Thick-knee, Small Pratincole and Lapwings.

12:00 noon – We will get off from the boats and proceed to visit the Ater Fort on Camel Back. (Optional)

01:00 pm - We will get off from the boats and return to Chambal Wildlife Safari Lodge, Mela Ground for Lunch.

2:30 pm: After Lunch, we will visit the Bateshwar group of Temples on the river Yamuna.

The name Bateshwar is derived from the main Bateshwarnath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva (Bateshwarnath Mahadev). As per the mythology and legends, here under a marvelous Banyan tree (Bat in Sanskrit), lord Shiva took rest for some time under that tree which stile standing at that place, the place known as Bat-Ishwar; the banyan lord.
Since ages Bateshwar remained a renowned religious centre both for Hindu and Jain communities. In the epic MahabharatBateshwar is supposed to be referred as Shouripur a city of king Suresaine. It is known for 101 Shiv Temples built by Raja Badan Singh Bhadauria on a dam on the banks of Yamuna. Shaouripur, near Bateshwar, which is the birthplace of the 22nd Tirthankar of Jain faith, Lord Neminath.
Option exits to visit the Jain Temples at Shouripur (approx. 4 kms from Bateshwar)

5:00 pm – Depart from Bateshwar to Agra. (70 kms, 1 hour 30 mins drive).

6:30 pm – Arrive Agra
